A new school year often feels like a fresh start. New schools. New classrooms. New teachers. New routines. With a new year right around the corner, you might already be thinking about how to establish or reestablish some spiritual rhythms in the life of your family.
Many parents go back to the drawing board at the start of a new school year. They assess where their family is, set new priorities, and dream about new habits they can establish in the months ahead. The temptation is to try and do everything at once: multiple moments of prayer each day, 30-minute daily Bible studies, memorizing long passages of Scripture, and attending every church event. We desire to build the perfect family discipleship plan.
But if we are not careful, we overcommit ourselves and make it too complicated.
Family discipleship is rarely built through a single big moment or by doing everything right. More often, it is shaped through small moments repeated over time: a prayer before school, a conversation in the car, or a verse discussed throughout the week. These simple rhythms may not seem significant in the moment, but over time they help point our kids to Jesus and keep our families focused on what matters most.
If you are looking for some ideas to get started, check out our Back to School Guide.
I pray these simple rhythms will be a blessing to your family this school year. Resist the urge to implement all of these rhythms at once. Start small. Choose one rhythm and learn to do it well. The goal is not to see how many spiritual practices your family can accomplish each day. The goal should be faithfully following Jesus in life’s everyday moments.
Which of these rhythms can your family start this week?

Yes- all about the small moments. I really like the “after school reset.” I often ask the kids for highs and lows of the day, but as the listener I can be looking for praises and prayers. Thanks Matt!
It's excellent, easy to understand and it will be very helpful, 🙏 🙏 🙏
